Why have therapy?

Counselling may be helpful if you are struggling with life in general, experiencing relationship difficulties or have been through trauma.

Harmful behaviours, including addictions, are often a  way of coping with inner turmoil and serve to silence the parts of us who have been wounded.

Having a safe place to explore what may be get in the way of what we want and need offers the opportunity to increase self-awareness and identify strategies which have helped us survive. This leads to a more empowered sense of self and expands the capacity to tolerate turning towards the pain we have experienced and discover a unique healing path.

Art therapy acknowledges that verbal expression is not always possible and offers an alternative or additional way of working through difficulties. It is effective in resourcing and offers a way of expressing and processing feelings. Creativity offers the unique opportunity to safely address and integrate trauma which has become embedded within the nervous system.

‘Counselling brings healing because it offers affirmation of being, freedom from judgement and the strengthening that comes from being understood’. Brian Thorne
